late nights were a prime time for hope and his pantasma, it was in those late night hours that he even met the gengar to begin with. it's also in those late nights where pantasma and hope had their absolute best ideas, most of which usually ended with the pair on the run while laughing mischievously. naturally hope was awake in the middle of the night when what some would call "paranormal activity" started happening. he had been writing a letter to himself when he heard three knocks on the wall right next to him and in reply he simply set his pen down then returned the three knocks before sitting in silence to see if it would happen again.

nothing.

"well that's rude..." hope muttered, picking the pen back up finish writing his letter. ever meet anyone who wrote to themselves? he hasn't either. these letters were supposed to be some form of coping for him, but what he was coping with? he didn't even know. at this point he was just jotting down his crazy ideas of the day that he wasn't able to act out. his deep thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sound of continuous scratching at his door. this time he set his letter and pen down on his bed as he swiftly stood from his spot and with cautious steps, hope made his way to the door. he stood there for a moment in silence, making sure that the scratches were continuing so he could catch the culprit behind these noises.

"gotcha!" hope yelled as he jerked his door open. behold! there was no one there and that left him bewildered for but a moment. he took a step out of his room and looked to his left then his right, catching no sign of anyone down either hallway. this could only mean one thing. definite paranormal activity! or phantasma got out again— no, impossible, phantasma was safe in her pokeball latched to hope's belt. next there was a loud bang to his right, it sounded like it was just down the hallway and around the corner. at this point hope was extremely invested and determined to discover the source of these mysterious noises.

"phantasma, we're going on an adventure," he stated out loud, patting the ball at his hip.

with an exaggerated sigh of profound irritation, he ducks beneath the doorway, and continues down the passage way. the bulkhead around him groaned beneath the pressure of the ocean outside, and subconsciously he moves elbows, arms, head and ankles away from protruding valves and label indicators until he finally rounds a corner.

and catches the dumbass grin of... whoever the fuck that was.

it was as though luck was on his side in every manner. first the suspicious noises and now he was graced by the presence of a rather aggressive fellow. the man's greeting didn't phase hope in the slightest, however, it did catch his interest and by default he decided to return the greeting that was given to him— with a smile on his face, of course.[break][break]

"oh! so you heard the noises too, then? unless it was you knocking on the walls and my door." hope gave a suspicious look for only a split second before he started laughing. there was no way this guy was the one making all of the noise, he was very clearly searching for it too. there was a lot more going on than hope expected but it was a very pleasant surprise.[break][break]

"and you are?" hope questioned as he took a few moments to look at the man and his unique look. his curiosity was ignited tenfold and he could feel the slurry of questions filling his mind already. why did he look like that? was his hair naturally that color? was he always his grumpy sounding? did the man have friends? if not, then hope would be his friend.[break][break]

the curse only made hope want to laugh even more but he made sure to restrict himself. why would there be any problem? who even finds a problem with laughing? certainly not hope.[break][break]

"no problems here." he waved his hand as if he were dismissing it entirely. his attention was being pulled to yet another noise in the distance — that was until king mentioned his name. now there's a name he hadn't heard before. and there it was... more questions.[break][break]

"you have a charming way of talking, don't ya, king?" hope basically mocked him at this point and couldn't help the fit of laughter that followed. when he was done poking at the angry man, he finally lifted his head and practically beamed, "my name's hope. very nice to meet you mr. king. you know, kings are usually pretty strong. so does that mean you're strong too?"

hope wasn't dumb, he knew exactly what was coming for mocking someone so aggressive— he just couldn't help the words that spilled from his mouth and the reactions only made him want to continue the playful banter. yes, even at the cost of getting hit here and there.[break][break]

"as fun as that sounds, i think it'll have to wait until after i find out what those noises are." the mood change was sudden and to some would be frightening. the smile wiped from hope's face and as if on cue, there was a loud bang down the corridor. hope was quick to turn and begin walking toward the noise, his intentions set on finding the source of these sounds.[break][break]

"phantasma, if it's one of your friends you're going to be in trouble..." he murmured loud enough for king to hear, even while he walked away.

now that was an obvious threat, but hope paid no mind to it. or rather, it only poked at his urge to mess with king even more — he didn't. hope's focus was the random noise, that is until king asked about phantasma. more often than he liked, hope found himself speaking out loud to his gengar who probably couldn't even hear him from within her pokeball. hope turned around with an amused grin on his face and took a few seconds to debate over telling king who phantasma was. what could it hurt?[break][break]

"phantasma is my gengar, she's very playful when she gets out and i know she might have friends lurking— i speak to her pretty often. don't you talk to your pokemon?" hope asked as if that were basic common sense.[break][break]
